Recruiting COP27 Climate Justice Support Volunteers

Do you have a few spare hours in October and November? And are you passionate about climate justice and Pacific climate resilience – then we’d love to hear from you.

Last year at COP26 in Glasgow – Climates helped PICAN deliver powerful advocacy actions on the ground by supporting fundraising and communications efforts. This year we want to ensure PICAN delegates are again supported to participate in Egypt. Please check out the PD below and via the link.

Responsible to Oli Moraes (Climates) and Lavetanalagi Seru (PICAN)
Works closely with The COP27 volunteers will work closely with the fundraising director (Oli) and the services and partnerships director (Farema), and will work directly with our Pacific partner the Pacific Islands Climate Action Network (PICAN).

Role
Terms of role Location: Remote

Duration: 2 months

Weekly commitment: 16 hours total over 2 months

Remuneration: Voluntary

Role statement Provide remote/online  support to Climates’ primary regional partner the Pacific Islands Climate Action Network (PICAN) with their activities before, during and after (2-3 weeks after) the upcoming United Nations climate change conference COP27 in Egypt.
Key responsibilities
  • Be part of a small team of COP27 Climate Justice Support Volunteers
  • Work to develop a communications support plan for PICAN and the PICAN delegates going to Egypt
  • Work to develop a fundraising strategy with and for PICAN and it’s delegates
  • Support fundraising initiatives including supporting PICAN delegates with the setting up of their own crowdfunding pages
  • Write, review and disseminate materials that elevate Pacific climate justice demands and actions
    • E.g. press/media releases
    • Draft social media posts
  • COP27 runs from November 6 to November 18, 2022
  • Attend PICAN Pacific Climate Justice Summit in early October (if available)
Role outcomes 
  1. Have provided effective comms support to PICAN
  2. PICAN delegates have funding to attend at COP in Egypt
Selection criteria Knowledge, skills and experience

Essential

  • Passionate about climate justice – supporting frontline communities
  • Able to commit to providing regular support before and during COP

Desirable

  • Experience using online communication and collaboration tools/software (e.g. Google Drive, Zoom, WhatsApp, Slack)
  • Some understanding of what COP conferences are and their purpose
  • Some experience with Comms and/or Fundraising (can be voluntary experience)
  • Interest and passion for the Pacific
  • Cultural competency/awareness
